RETIRED FDNY FIREFIGHTER
WILLIAM "BILL" MCCARTHY III
Age 73

Rest in Peace

RETIRED FDNY FIREFIGHTER BILL MCCARTHY
William F "Bill" McCarthy III, age 73, passed away June 14, 2020
in Mashpee. Bill joined the FDNY after serving in the US Navy.
He worked on Engine 216 in Queens and then transferred across
the floor to Ladder 108. He then served 15 years as a member of
the elite Queens Rescue Company 4.

He was a founding member of
the FEMA NY-TF1 Urban Search and Rescue team and was among
those who responded to the April 19, 1995 Oklahoma City bombing
at the Murrah Federal Building.

Bill had retired before September 11, 2001, but like many others,
returned to work "the pile" at Ground  Zero to recover his brothers
and sisters lost when the World Trade Center came down.
His unselfish duty, resulted in him developing Cancer, as has
struck so many others in the years following 9-11.

Despite his illness, Bill who had moved to Cape Cod (Mashpee)
to enjoy his retirement, continued to love the profession he as a
firefighter enjoyed for many years and was a regular visitor
in his FDNY Class A uniform to pay respect at the annual
September 11 Memorial services at COMM HQ.

Rest in Peace Bill. Thank you for your service.
